The class A uniform is composed of the official, blue, button-up cub scout shirt, with appropriate patches and badges, blue pants (either long or short, jeans are acceptable), cub scout neckerchief and slide, cub scout belt, and cub scout hat. The class A uniform should be worn whenever the scouts are interacting in their capacity as Cub Scouts with the general public, or whenever the occasion is considered to be formal or official. You get a lot of valuable information in this class.); Youth Protection Training (You can take this training at the Atlanta BSA website as well or you can watch the Pack video. What do I need to do before taking my scouts on a trip?
Official Boy Scouts of America policy requires that you file a "Local Tour Permit Application" with the local service center at least two weeks prior to your trip, if it takes you less than 500 miles from home. An approved application is required for you and your scouts to be covered under the BSA's liability insurance. If your trip requires traveling more than 500 miles, or takes you out of the United States, you must file a "National Tour Permit Application", instead. Additionally, if your trip involves camping, you must have at least one adult leader with you who has completed the official BSA Outdoor Leader Training course. Both tour applications are available from the "Links & Resources" page of this site.

How can my son join Cub Scouts?
The Cub Scout program is open to all boys in first grade through fifth grade. If your son will be starting first through fifth grade this August, then he's eligible to join. Sixth graders and older would participate as a Boy Scout.
While its possible to join at any time, the best (and easiest) time to join is during Scouting's annual recruiting drive, which takes place in September. Area elementary schools will host a "School Night For Scouting" reception one evening during the first two weeks of September. The specific dates, locations, and additional information about School Night For Scouting should be sent home with your son from school during the first few weeks of the new year.
School Night For Scouting includes a presentation for the parents with information on how to join, Scouting's mission, and what paperwork is required. It also will include representatives from several area Packs, who usually have displays of the activities and events their Pack participates in each year. Parents and boys are encouraged to talk with the Packs represented and, if interested, select one to join. Most often, the selection is based on location, but it may also be selected on the chartering organization (for example a church or neighborhood) which the family already has a relationship with. The Pack representatives will have a registration form that can be completed that evening.
